First signs of drumming art appeared as early as in my mother's womb where I mercilessly was drumming (probably on the imaginary cardan) as evidence of the injured parents show. Therefore, nature made a decision to seclude me from this vacuum – to make a long story short - I was born.
I was born in Kiev, and 2 years after my existence in Ukraine I dislocated to Georgia, town of Kabuleti where I continued my existence. My existence was very exciting, but physically it was unfavorable for others, because my hot childish character was experienced a lot by other people. The main weapons of this “sacred mission” were drum sticks that I couldn't make use of and therefore I was beating everyone and everything with them, everything except for the drums.
After living for some time in Georgia, I got equipped with local culture, language - I came back to Ukraine. So here starts the most creative part of my life.
When I was 17 years old, first time in my life I touched with drum sticks to something similar to a drum. It was a piece of wood with 5 electronic pancakes plus installed modules and a barrel built by two spur stones in between which there was a super non sensitive detector. Except that from 10 possible foot kicks only 4 played, that's why I stopped playing on the barrel. Also I started with metal and became a percussion head-banger.
At that time my taste formed two musical currents – new – and old- that’s how I called them. From the first one I was listening to Guano Apes, Corn, and from the latter - Iron Maiden Offspring Metallica Manowar and pop music. Soon I was hooked up to new metal, Hard-core, Alternative and then Trip-pop, Brit-pop, Alt-create, of course, Jazz, Funk, Blues and different avant-garde + bonus classical music – I was freaking from it.
Soon I learnt how to play at "alive kitchen” and the world of music gained different character for me, but at the same time I was always a musician first of all, and then a drummer. I have played with more than 10 bands, playing mostly hard rock and “meat” and at the same time, all of a sudden I wanted to play something “vegetarian”. I started cooperating with Trip-hop, Jazz, Funk bands, but at the same time I shift from “metal”. Thanks to that I lost my dependency on cardan, and it allowed my fantasy to breathe and bloom (i suggest to all the drummers of the world not to start from cardan, better to learn from playing at single pedal and then cardan).
I started imagining drawings that I wasn't even aware of, and definitely such drummers as S.Mayer, Zoro, D.Weckl, J.Porcaro, O.Hakim, J.Rabb,S.Gadd, H.Hernandes, V.Colaiuta, S.Smith helped me.
Thanks to them I understood that drums is the whole different world without borders you’re your fantasy where you can spit nails at most, but where one should sweat guts out as Father Carlo in order for Buratino to start speaking. |
