As a group, AtmAsfera, became visible in 2005
when they won the festival of Chervona Ruta. The broadness of musical
vision and level of mastery of instruments allowed the team to work in
two directions at the same time: art-rock with the elements of funk,
trip-hop, folk, classical music, jazz and hard-rock, as well as etno
style which combines folk music of different countries with songs in
ancient languages, namely in sanscrit. Last year the band recorded an
album on each style, but they haven’t been released yet. Gradually they
fell in love with folk more and more, and specifically as ethno band
AtmAsfera became popular at a dozen such festivals, like Musical
island, Ethno-revolution, Nivroku, Chaika and Polish Woodstock, it also
became the winner in November at National Final Competition of The
Global Battle Of The Bands and it will represent Ukraine at World Final
in London.
Music: there are extracts of different compositions at their website
www.atmasfera.info. Alive concerts have been postponed for now, the
band is getting ready for GBOB final which will take place on 4-6
December.
Andriy Shadiy replies:
Source of inspiration:
A desire to change oneself and change the world, bring in it more
happiness. All of us have different tastes, some like classical music
(someone likes Bah), others like Sting or Bregovich. Also we are
inspired by folk music of all nations, sounds of nature, voices of
birds, beautiful landscapes, autumn silence, books about the sense of
life, Vedas, nice people and friends…
What money does the band live on:
Almost all of us work at different places, and the compensation from concerts is spent exclusively on the needs of the band.
Main places of work:
Yulya and Nastya Yaremchuk – housewives; Andrey Shadiy – everything in
connection with musical instruments, studio work, electronics; Igor Sas
– different jobs, and the rest of the team members (Timur Gogitidze,
Alexander Goncharuk and Andrey Cherkasov) – university students.
Cover version of what Ukrainian main stream performer would you like to make?
We don’t have any desire to make any covers. We never considered this
question. We still have a lot of fantasy, so we don’t want to waste our
time on something which is already played.
